Which Anti Aging Treatments Actually Work?

Preserving youth is big business, and there are many anti aging treatments available that claim to keep you looking and feeling youthful. The trouble is, there are only a couple of options that actually work, and are not harmful.

Here is an overview of some of the most popular anti aging treatments.

  • Botox (not recommended)

Botox and Dysport are designed to get rid of facial wrinkles. Their main ingredient is botulism toxin and they work by freezing the injected muscle. They are mainly used on wrinkles on the forehead, frown line (top of the nose) and laughter lines.

Which Anti Aging Treatments Actually Work? These treatments are highly effective at disguising the appearance of wrinkles. The downsides are that the effects are superficial. They don’t slow down the aging process; they just make you appear younger. Also the effects are short term, you need to be injected every 3 to 6 months and treatments are expensive.

  • Teeth Whitening (verdict's still out)

Teeth discolor with age, so having teeth whitening treatments can make you look more youthful. A gel is applied inside a mould which covers your teeth. Sometimes a laser light is also used to speed up the effect.

The results vary depending on the participant and the treatment. They can produce a whiter smile, but the treatment usually needs to be done every year or so, to keep the effect.

  • Nutritional Supplements (highly recommended)

Nutritional supplements are anti aging treatments that are popular with those who want to prevent the effects of aging on the inside and outside of the body. The most popular supplements contain antioxidants and they work by fighting free radicals in your body. Free radicals cause aging, illness and disease. There are several supplements available, but the most effective ones include superfoods like blueberries and Vitamin E Tocotrienols which are both powerful antioxidants.

These supplements are safe to take and they combat aging from the inside of the body as well as the outside. They are by far the most cost effective form of anti-aging treatments.

  • Skin Creams (beware some ingredients can be harmful)

There are a huge number of expensive skin creams available. Generally, they do make your skin feel and appear better temporarily but the effects are superficial. No skin cream has been proven to get rid of the signs of aging, and some ingredients can actually be harmful.

  • Liposuction (not recommended)

Being overweight can dramatically speed up the aging process. Liposuction is an invasive treatment, which removes the fat from problem areas of your body. It is an expensive treatment and all types of surgery are potentially dangerous, so it is not a safe way to lose fat. Plus, liposuction is a short term solution to being overweight. If you don’t re-educate yourself and change your diet, all the fat will come back again. Liposuction is probably the most risky of all the anti aging treatments mentioned.

  • Exercise (highly recommended)

Exercise actually protects the body against the aging process. It makes you look and feel younger naturally. By exercising moderately, you build and maintain muscle mass, which is the most benificial anti-aging treatment you can do.

Research has shown that the two best anti aging treatments are adding nutritional supplements with powerful antioxidants to your diet and exercising regularly.
